This is reinforced by the growing commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.testaresidencial.com\/testa-magazine\/tendencias-en-el-mercado-inmobiliario-criterios-de-sostenibilidad\/\">sustainability<\/a>, which when coupled with the need for fresh air has stimulated the desire to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.testaresidencial.com\/testa-magazine\/aprovecha-al-maximo-tu-terraza-o-jardin-este-verano\/\"><strong>live near green areas<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Living within easy reach of the countryside or near parks or large gardens where we are able to connect with nature not only helps us feel younger but can even make us younger. According to a study published in the journal <em>Science of the Total Environment<\/em>, reported by the <strong>Spanish Association of Public Parks and Gardens (AEPJP)<\/strong>, people living near green spaces can experience a reduction of up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aepjp.es\/la-vida-en-espacios-verdes-aumenta-la-longevidad-de-las-personas\/#:~:text=La%20edad%20biol%C3%B3gica%20puede%20rejuvenecer,Science%20of%20the%20Total%20Environment.\">two years in biological age<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s more; below we explore the other advantages and implications of these areas immersed in nature.<\/p>\n<h2>Benefits for physical and mental health<\/h2>\n<p>The most important benefit of living near green areas is that it improves our health in several respects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Physical health benefits<\/strong>. Our respiratory system benefits from cleaner, purer air. There are more opportunities for outdoor physical activity. Running, playing or simply going for walks can provide a release from sedentary lifestyles and the health problems they entail. In fact, studies show that <strong>living close to nature decreases the likelihood of suffering from cardiovascular diseases or obesity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mental health benefits.<\/strong>\u00a0A natural environment helps reduce stress, one of the great afflictions of our time, as they lower cortisol levels. By doing so they lift our mood and help us clear our the mind, leaving the noise and pressure behind.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social benefits<\/strong>. When people are immersed in nature they find it easier to socialise and get along with one another, which is also fundamental for mental health. In an increasingly individualistic world, we need opportunities to just spend time together in harmony, and parks and natural spaces provide just that.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Environmental benefits<\/strong>. Green spaces obviously have a significant impact on the environment. Most important of all, they <strong>reduce the heat effect generated by large cities<\/strong> and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. They also help absorb rainwater, thus preventing flooding, and foster biodiversity by providing a habitat for birds, insects and other species.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In short, green areas improve people&#8217;s quality of life in many ways. That is why proximity to green areas is becoming an increasingly important consideration when choosing somewhere to live.
