Decoration and Tips, Our homes

Five decorative items your home should not be without this summer

Five decorative items your home should not be without this summer

Summer is almost here, so this is the perfect time to give a fresh, cheerful look to our homes. Here are five decorative items that will give your home a refreshing, summery feel.

  • Cool, lightweight textiles

Textiles are key to creating a fresh, cosy atmosphere in a room in summer. We recommend cool, lightweight fabrics such as cotton, linen or bamboo for curtains, sheets, cushion covers and even upholstery.

Light colours and prints with summer motifs, such as flowers or tropical plants, are perfect for giving a refreshing, relaxing touch to the home.

  • Plants and flowers

Flowers and decorative plants are essential if we want to create a cool, natural atmosphere in summer. You can opt for low-maintenance indoor plants that are tolerante of high temperatures, such as sansevieria or snake plant, or else seasonal flowers such as sunflowers or daisies. Imagine how good they would look in the living room or on the terrace in Vara del Rey!

You could also opt for pots of aromatic herbs such as mint, basil or rosemary to give a sweet-smelling, refreshing touch to your kitchen.

  • Summer motifs

A simple and economical way of giving a summery look to your home is through summer motifs. You can use stickers or wallpapers with tropical or beach motifs to change the walls, or paintaings and prints of summer landscapes.

You can also decorate the walls with hand-woven tapestries or crochet rugs with natural motifs.

  • Decorative accessories

Decorative accessories are essential to a relaxed summer décor. Cushions with sea motifs, vases encrusted with shells, large seashells, natural lamps… anything will do, so long as it recalls summer.

You can also use decorative items such as a wicker baskets, wooden trays or glass bowls filled with colourful fresh fruit to give a natural touch to the rooms.

  • Appropriate lighting

In summer, lighting also plays an important role in home decoration. Soft, warm lighting will create a relaxed, cosy atmosphere. Floor lamps with wicker or cloth screens are ideal for creating soft, diffuse lighting, while strings of lights or scented candles are a perfect way to add a romantic touch to the home.

Extra tip: if in addition to the indoors, you also decorate your terrace or garden with summer furniture, plants and lights, you’ll have a pleasant, refreshing atmosphere for the whole season.

To give a summery look to your home décor, don’t forget to use new textiles, redecorate, and add natural decorative items according to the light in each rooms. With these changes and with the right home, which we at Fidere will help you find, you’ll find you can create a cool, relaxed atmosphere for the months ahead.
