• Return on investment. While there’s an upfront cost to installing solar panels, the investment typically pays off within six to ten years. Given that solar panels generally have a lifespan of 25 years, they offer a highly cost-effective and worthwhile return.
• Incentives and grants. Across Spain, there are subsidies available for installing solar panels, along with tax deductions, providing even more benefits for homeowners.
• Reducing your carbon footprint. This is arguably one of the most important advantages. Solar energy is completely clean and renewable. By reducing the use of energy from fossil fuels, CO₂ emissions are significantly lowered. According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE), in 2023, households were responsible for 22.9% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, second only to the manufacturing industry.
• Energy independence. Solar panels also provide energy independence, reducing reliance on the electricity grid and protecting against outages or system failures.
• Surplus energy compensation. Another great benefit is that if you generate more energy than you consume, you can sell the surplus back to the grid, receiving a discount on your electricity bill in return.
• Low maintenance. Solar panels require very little upkeep — just the occasional cleaning and an annual check-up.
