Tips and tricks to organise small kitchens

Space won’t be a problem in your kitchen when you use these tricks to organise small kitchens.

There are many benefits of having a small kitchen, for example, everything is within easy reach, they are much easier to clean, and you don’t accumulate things you don’t need. The only problem is that in the smallest of kitchens, space is at a premium. But don’t worry, with these tips you’ll not only make use of every nook and cranny, you’ll also discover a world of new possibilities to gain extra storage.

  1. Vertical spaces

Extend units up to the ceiling, use shelving, cupboards… anything will help. Put the utensils you use the least at the top and you’ll free up space.

Extra tip: if you can, use a system for hanging utensils such as frying pans, kitchen spoons or cloths.

  1. Storage baskets and boxes

Plastic, cloth, aluminium or whatever is best for storing kitchen utensils, pots and pans. Boxes can be used to organise and store small kitchen utensils or food, making better use of cupboards and ensuring everything has its place.

  1. Zip-seal bags

Although zip-seal bags are mainly for preserving food, they can also be used to save space. They are great for spaces where jars or boxes don’t fit but individual packets of pasta, biscuits, preserves, etc. take up a lot of space. You can also use them for vegetables, biscuits or any other types of food.

  1. Cutlery trays

By using trays to separate cutlery and kitchen utensils you’ll be able to make the best of flat spaces and have everything in its place and easy to find.

  1. See-through containers

See-through jars, boxes and containers will be your greatest ally. You can use them to arrange everything you often need within sight, as well as those less common items that can be stored away. You’ll be able to see what’s inside without having to move them or take everything out.

  1. Cupboard organisers

It’s not just the space you can see, it’s also what you can’t. Make the best of the spaces above shelves or deep bottom drawers by using cupboard organisers, racks and hidden drawers. This will give you even more space.

The new kitchens in our Carabanchel apartments have wall and floor units which can be fitted with a variety of organisers depending on your needs.

  1. Space between furniture

Every corner is valuable so you can use the spaces between kitchen units and electrical appliances to hang different kitchen utensils and equipment.

Just like in our kitchens in Alcalá de Henares: a space designed to be filled with furniture and kitchen organisers.

  1. Choose multi-purpose

When you’re looking for new furniture or items for your kitchen such as tables, chairs or décor, check if they are practical and whether they offer extra storage. Examples of this are chairs with storage, folding tables or jars or jugs.

  1. Storage trolleys

It’s one of the most popular pieces of furniture in kitchens and bathrooms, which comes as no surprise. Trolleys provide extra storage in those otherwise wasted spaces in a small kitchen. You choose how tall and wide they are and how they are distributed. Then, as they have wheels and are easy to move about, you can put your trolley anywhere and have every type of utensil at your fingertips

If there’s anything key to making the best use of small kitchens, its keeping everything in its place all the time. By arranging food and utensils by category and purpose, you’ll be able to find them more easily and keep your kitchen organised.

Follow these tips and you’ll not only squeeze the most out of the storage in your kitchen, you’ll also create more!
