El cuarto de baño es una de las estancias más necesarias de un hogar, pero además es un espacio que puede aprovecharse y personalizarse para obtener a la vez estilo y funcionalidad independientemente de su tamaño.
The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in a home, but it is also a space that can be used and customised to achieve style and functionality in the same place regardless of its size.
We don’t have the magic formula for multiplying space and making rooms bigger (we wish!) but what we do have are the best ideas for making the most of the available space in small bathrooms.
It’s no secret that we are increasingly keen on two-in-one furniture, we have spoken about it in previous posts and we have to do so again today. Economising on space is one of the best ways of optimising it and multi-purpose furniture meets this goal to perfection.
Mirrors with cupboards or shelves incorporated are winners in the bathroom, not only because they create storage space where there wasn’t any but also because of the sensation of greater space and brightness they project with their reflection.
Another two-in-one option is shelving, which nowadays often comes with a towel rail incorporated, thereby increasing the storage space.
If you are one of those people who just has to have a stool or chair in your bathroom, we suggest you get one with internal storage, so just by lifting the lid you will have towels, toilet paper and anything else you can imagine to hand.
Although when it comes to saving space there is nothing like sliding doors, if your bathroom has classic doors, such as the one in our property in Rivas (Madrid), make the most of them by using coat hangers – you can hang them from the door frame or fix them to the back of the door, it’s up to you.
Forget about leaving things on the floor and placing cupboards and sets of drawers on the lower part of small bathrooms. Floating furniture gives a greater sensation of order and space. This is one of the best secrets for keeping bathrooms as uncluttered as possible without losing any space. High but narrow shelving is perfect in this respect.
Be careful! There’s a big difference between filling space with things and making the most of nooks and crannies. The walls where the lavatory is, the spaces next to the wash basin, the corners of the shower, all these nooks and crannies are perfect for organising and storing things if you choose the most suitable furniture, drawers and shelves for each space.
What do you think about these ideas for making the most of small bathrooms?
All of them can be used in bathrooms such as the one in Torrejón de Ardoz, a cosy space that is perfect for decorating and organising as you wish.
In Dulce Chacón the fixtures, such as the wash basin, are suspended, providing more space for drawers or small trolleys with wheels.
If you have the urge to reorganise your bathroom or better still find out about new ones, visit our website and you will find a large selection of homes in Madrid, from studio flats to 4 bedroom properties. We have the perfect rental home for you.
