Madrid’s most beautiful parks in spring

Spring is one of the best times of the year to visit the parks in Madrid.

The trees are in blossom, there’s a warmth in the air. It’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the new growth.

Madrid offers a great variety of activities, including public parks where you can take a walk and relax, so as to make the most of this special time of year. Here are some of the most beautiful parks in Madrid in spring.

  1. El Retiro

As one of Madrid’s most famous parks, El Retiro has be top of the list. It’s an oasis of calm in the heart of the city. In spring, it’s filled with flowers and vibrant colours stretching out along its great avenues and around its famous lake, where you can hire a rowing boat, after enjoying the magnificent Palacio de Cristal, originally a greenhouse but now a venue for art exhibitions.

It’s worth spending some time exploring the park, which includes the La Rosaleda rose garden, with more than 4000 bushes of different varieties, and the Jardín de Vivaces, which features a wide variety of flowers and spring colours.

  1. Parque del Oeste

The Oeste Park is one of Madrid’s best known parks on account of its location and extension. It boasts a large number of paths, gardens and historical buildings.

In spring, the Parque del Oeste is filled with flowers and plants, displaying a magnificent palette of colours. It also has many trees and shrubs and is particularly noted for its rose bushes, magnolias and almond trees.

One of the park’s most beautiful spots is the Templo de Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple that was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government. From there you have a breath-taking panoramic view of the city. We also recommend you visit El Rosedal, a rose garden with more than 600 varieties, and the Las Eras garden, featuring a variety of aromatic plants.

Besides its famous almond trees, the park also has a large number of other trees and flowering plants, including daffodils and tulips.

Quinta de los Molinos has several long avenues, perfect for a leisurely stroll, interspersed with ponds and fountains, making it a perfect place to feel close to nature. It is also very popular for picnics or just taking a rest in quiet surroundings.

Situated against the north façade of the Palacio Real, the Sabatini Gardens are one of the most beautiful places to savour spring in Madrid. The gardens were developed in the 17th century and boast a large number of flowers, including roses, lilies and daisies.
