Small kitchen, big tricks to gain space

Transforma tu cocina en un espacio acogedor y cargado de soluciones, sin importar los metros cuadrados que tenga, con nuestros consejos para obtener el mayor provecho de cocinas pequeñas.

Forget the handicap of having a small kitchen, with these tricks you can turn it into a cosy space full of solutions.

It might have few square metres but all of them will be full of charm. Small kitchens are perfect for making useful, cosy and successful spaces, and with our tips you will be able to enjoy a small and well equipped kitchen ready to be converted into a veritable gastronomic corner.

  • Adapt to the available space

If your kitchen has protrusions and you want to create a uniform space, you will have to use them in a consistent manner, installing furniture and household appliances that adapt to the structure of the kitchen.

In this section we include customised furniture. Shelves that emerge from the doors, corner cupboards – imagination is king, you only have to visualise the spaces and the furniture that will go in them.

  • Use vertical storage elements

Hang bars, shelves and shelving units on the wall and use them as storage spaces. Pots and pans and all kind of utensils can be stored in the top part of the kitchen, leaving the lower part for household appliances.

  • Incorporate furniture that has a double use

Make space your ally; use furniture that has a double function to gain space together with seats with storage, islands that are work surfaces, etc. The possibilities are endless.

  • Hide the household appliances

Kitchen furniture is perfect for creating a sensation of greater space. The extractor hood, the fridge, the dishwasher, etc. are some of the household appliances that can be panelled to create an optical illusion of greater space.

  • Make use of height as much as possible

Incorporate tall modules that reach the ceiling, thereby multiplying your storage capacity with cupboards, drawers and shelving units.

An extra bit of advice: so that the kitchen doesn’t feel oppressive, we recommend only using these on one side of the kitchen or using ones with glass doors.

  • Storage under the household appliances

Household appliances often have a small space in the lower part. Narrow drawers can be installed in this to store table cloths and even frying pans.

  • Separate the drawer space

Drawers can be used more efficiently if you arrange them correctly, and there is nothing better for this than separators for cutlery, spices, etc. You will be able to see each object at a single glance and have everything more tidy and to hand.

  • Hidden drawers

One of the latest trends in kitchen decoration consists of furniture that has hidden drawers. With a smooth front and no handles, this reduces the number of joints and you won’t lose a centimetre of storage space.

Such as in our kitchens in Vallecas.

  • Change to folding doors

Although it may seem that cupboard doors take up the same space, this is not so. Folding doors make better use of space than normal ones and provide a greater visual order.
