Tips for saving gas at home

Have gas expenses multiplied? In today's post we give you some tips to help you keep your electricity bill under control.

Reduce consumption, optimise your daily routines and find out how to save gas at home with these tips.

While prices return to normal, we have the best tips on how to save gas at home.

  • Start with the heating

Heating is the biggest consumer of gas so a few small tips about its use will help you to save gas at home.

Not exceeding 23º in any of the rooms of your home and limiting the use of the heating to a certain number of hours a day will allow you to obtain a pleasant and constant temperature that will result in cost savings.

Generally, 21-22º is considered the optimum temperature for a room to feel comfortable.

Don’t turn on the heating in rooms you don’t use. The guest bedroom, the storeroom, the utility room, etc. are rooms that are not in continual use so turning off the radiators or programming the thermostat will result in greater optimisation of the heating.

While we’re on the subject of radiators, don’t forget their maintenance. Bleeding them, checking for leaks, controlling the water pressure and making sure the valve caps don’t dry out will all keep the heating operating optimally.

Make sure not to cover the radiators with clothing or furniture as this will prevent the heat from being retained or radiating efficiently.

Don’t overdo ventilation and make the most of the sunlight hours. Open the curtains and blinds so the sunlight can heat each room naturally. In the winter, it is advisable to ventilate each room for only a short period of time to prevent the heat from escaping or the cold from entering.

Extra tip: remember to ventilate rooms with the heating turned off so as not to waste energy.

  • The water heater

If, in addition to the heating, your water heater uses gas, you can also cut costs with a few simple actions.

Don’t set the temperature above 45º, this is enough to heat all the water and your consumption will not shoot up when your wash the dishes or use the shower.

Don’t use the hot water if not necessary. We often leave the taps in the hot water position and when we turn them on they automatically activate the water heater when we don’t need to use it.

Whenever possible use the washing machine’s cold or lukewarm water programmes to avoid using large amounts of hot water. What’s more, you will do less harm to your clothes and often obtain the same result as with hot water washes.

Controlling the amount of water you use in daily tasks such as doing the laundry or washing the dishes will allow you to save large amounts of energy as these small tasks are carried out very frequently.

  • If your cooker runs on natural gas

If your cooker runs on gas we have some small tips for you to continue to save at home.

Don’t open the oven while cooking, in this way you will avoid losing heat and will save gas. Whenever possible use the microwave to save money.

Keep the burners clean, in that way their combustion will be better and they will be more efficient in less time.

Use pots and pans that are specifically designed for use with gas cookers. In other words, use pots and pans that are of the right size both for the burners and for the amount of food you are going to cook, in that way you will be able to cook more quickly.

Although we consume gas the whole year round, the start of the cold weather sees its use increase as we turn on the heating and use more hot water. Don’t panic! By using the tips included in this post you will be able to save gas at home by making small actions that don’t require any effort.
